2024 PGA Championship to Get Off to a Nightmare Start? Latest Valhalla Reports Spell Big Trouble For Golfers

Weather has been a significant factor in golf tournaments this year, causing disruptions and delays in several events including Valhalla. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM and the RBC Heritage Champion faced challenges due to adverse weather conditions. For instance, the final round of the RBC Heritage Champion had to be postponed to the following day, affecting the schedule.

Similarly, the WM Phoenix Open experienced a delay, coinciding with the Super Bowl, disappointing fans. Concerns arise about whether the 2024 Valhalla showdown will encounter similar issues.

The weather forecast for Louisville indicates cloudy skies with scattered thunderstorms and an 80% chance of rain, potentially affecting the Valhalla showdown. Although May 15th has a lower chance of precipitation, dark clouds persist around the venue.

While the first round on Thursday may be rain-free, the greens might not receive ample sunlight. Winds are expected to blow from the west-northwest at 5 to 10 mph during the day, with a 60% chance of rain at night. Temperatures may range from 55F to 78F.

Friday’s forecast predicts heavy rain and thunderstorms with a wind shift to south-southwest at 10 mph on average, with temperatures ranging from 62F to 76F.

However, weather conditions are expected to improve gradually. Saturday may only see morning showers with a 40% chance of precipitation, with southwest winds at 6–12 mph and temperatures ranging from 60F to 80F. The final rounds are anticipated to be cloudy with a 17% chance of rain.

In 2014, Valhalla faced a torrential downpour during the final round, causing delays in tee-off times. This led to controversy over why the schedule wasn’t adjusted earlier despite rain warnings. The PGA of America’s chief championships officer explained that efforts were made to manage water movement to minimize disruptions for players. A comparison shared on social media showed a 20-minute difference in the condition of a flooded green at Valhalla.
